NWMO | Charger basic (S-metolachlor) is better on grasses than Authority, but not broadleaf weeds. Authority is good on things like waterhemp and pigweed, but not so good on grasses like giant foxtail and johnsongrass. Metribuzin is a decent product, but we went away from it due to higher pH soils. This year, we used Aquesta (generic authority) and Anthem Maxx (zidua+cadet) and made our own version of authority supreme. It worked very well and was only about $15.31/ac for 4 oz authority and 3.25 oz anthem maxx.
If you're going to do treflan, I'd use the authority mtz and plant soybeans with RR technology to clean up grasses later. Just watch your pH with the metribuzin. Treflan works well on grasses and the authority mtz will work better than dual and metribuzin.
If I could make another suggestion, pre plant spray the authority to try and avoid damaging the seedlings coming out of the ground. This can occur when the plants are very young and authority is splashed up onto the young plants with rain. | |
