| Hey guys,
I'm on the Machinery side of AgTalk from time to time, but a friend suggested I visit the Livestock page here. We are corn and soybean farmers located in central Iowa, and I've started adding Alfalfa to our growing cycle. Really love what it does for our ground as a rotation, although we don't have any livestock of our own, so I'm learning marketing the hard way. :)
Looking for suggestions on how to link up with reputable cattle farmers who are looking for hay. I like to be transparent and build quality relationships over time. We've also opted to go to 4-foot wide round bales so they can transport easier. I've considered switching to large squares, and I think that's in our future, but I'm not ready to invest in a massive building that can store 250 acres of hay until we get a better start in this process.
Not looking to throw a sales pitch out here... if you want to know how to find our hay, you can ask, but I won't be that guy that comes on here just to make a sales pitch. I'm really just looking for what your recommendations are to start building trustworthy relationships in the livestock industry and make the connections in the right way. I can knock on the doors of our local farmers as well, but we grow enough hay around here that I need to look farther out. Should I be talking to Cattlemen's associations, etc?
Thank you in advance.
