West Central Wisconsin | My wife outdid herself tonight by preparing a Mardi Gras meal for friends and family. She had been thinking it would be fun to experince Mardi Gras if only for the food. Naturally beads were provided as guests arrived and we then sat down to classics such as gumbo, jambalaya, dirty rice, drunken collard greens, red beans and rice and corn bread. We washed it all down with sweet tea and "Hurricanes" made by our college-aged daughter and for dessert we were served "King Cake". It was the first time my wife had ever made any of the dishes other than the corn bread and everyone left satisfied. Even our neighbor who is leary of anything we offer was asking for seconds. When she asked what was in the dirty rice I told her dirt and rice. We haven't told her yet it was made with chicken gizzards and livers.LOL I'm thinking this might be an annual event.
