Most likely a bad touchpad, they go bad, or the cable is bad or no longer seated properly. There is probably a youtube video on how to take it apart to get to it. or ifixit.com might have a guide and maybe a replacement part. It isn't hard but if it has a ribbon connector they usually have a latch on them that needs to be lifted to slide the ribbon out, don't just yank it. A broken connector isn't an easy fix.
