guess i never thought to define 'mix'. junkets, rival, deans, are some brands i have found. it is a packet of about 4-5 oz of dry ingredients to make ice cream. you add 1-2 quarts half and half, and put in ice cream freezer and go. no fuss, no muss, no planning ahead. we have used vairious recipes for years. when we had our own eggs, we used a uncooked recipe. now with store eggs, i prefer a cooked one recipe. do have to allow time for it to cool, so it is much more of a project.

when our kids were small, it was high adventure to go out and gather icicles to use for the ice. they would take turns cranking, until it turned real hard. we had a lot of fun times with that.

i just called the hy vee store, and they said they would check and call me back. dept. manager called back and they do have it, he was very pleasant too. only 40 miles away too. after about 5 tries with nothing, i was beginning to think that they weren't available.
