South Central Kansas, Harper County | I have a 20/20 system on my JD 1770 CCS 16 row planter, and when I moved to my last field to plant grain sorghum yesterday, I started having problems. Of course, always going down bumpy washed out dirt roads is common in our area. I unflolded at field, and started planting, went probably 50 yds then both 20/20 Gen 1 display and JD monitor said I had stopped planting, raised up backed up a bit, and tried again, same results. I got out and dug for seed, and I was indeed planting. Turned swath control off, and it seemed to work briefly, then notified rows were not planting. Not all the rows, maybe 1-3, then 1- 16, then 2-6, just random outages displayed. Went back and checked wiring, unplugged harness going into smart connector and reattached, checked wiring going forward to tractor(I have replaced that in the past several years ago, when I pinched the cable when folding), could see no problems with cable. Unplugged all wires going into tractor and reattached. did the same inside the cab going to Gen 1 monitor. Tried planting again, with same results. Just intemittent rows saying not planting, sometimes all the rows, sometimes just groups of random rows. I got off the tractor enought to verify it was always planting seed. I probably would have tried to plant this small 70 acre field, but was scared sometime, it might NOT be planting and then I would replant the field later. So, decided to just quit for the day. Im ready to unhook from the planter and plant a couple of fields of soybeans with my air seeder, so I can also finish planting that last Milo field with air seeder, which is probable, as I dont have the time to do alot of troubleshooting when all dealerships are closed for the weekend. Thus, I turned to Agtalk to possibly get some insight. Does any of this I have listed sound familiar to any of you? I imagine its a wireing issue of some sort, but is this how a smart connector acts when it goes bad? Any input, greatly appeciated. Thanks, Jim
Kind of strange messege popped up on display, while troublshooting connections and cable integrity. " The seed sensors on planter rows 1-12, 14-16 were not detected. Refer to the Diagnositoc Tab for more details" Odd that it would only detect on seed sensor row and that was #13. In my thinking, that kind of rules out a cable issue and makes me think smart connector? Dont know how they are supposed to act when they go out? Red and Green light are blinking slowly on Smart Connector, which is supposed to mean "OK".
