I get that message everytime on startup as well. Think it has done it ever since I have had the setup. Only a few times has it shown that message after gaining convergence.

I was just messing with my Steady Steer in my new to me Hagie yesterday. I am using an "old" display cable that was formerly used with an Insight. Since the connector has been changed, I use a short adapter. Another option would have been to purchase a new style cable that has the InCommand style of connector and also branches for powering Steady Steer.

The old cable does not have a High Current branch (does the actual work of running the Steady Steer Motor) or the Steering Activation branch (informs the Steady Steer system to wake up). I made my own branches by creating a stub cable that connects to the input terminal of the Hagie Cab relay for the High Current Branch and an Activation branch by creating anothor stub cable that connects to the output side of the Hagie Cab relay.

This means that my steering activation branch is only "hot" when the Hagie key is ON. It is not triggered by the InCommand. This is not a problem since in actual use both the Hagie and the InCommand will be On. If however, I turn on the InCommand with the Hagie ignition switch Off, I do get the "SCM doesn't appear to be connected" which is proper in my situation. Once I start the Hagie, the message goes away. If I should have the Hagie running and then turn on the InCommand I do not get that warning.

I don't think that is the issue here.
