To answer your specific questions:

GPS is not required to detect the ecu2 module. With no gps present you still should be able to go into the ontrac2 menu. You will obviously need gps to steer, but to simply access the menus and detect preference of the ECU it is not required.


“Second question, is the ECU2 power cable necessary with power coming from the CAN”

Yes. The ECU2 power is necessary. The ecu2 power is direct to the battery and provides power to MDU. The CAN power is kind of like a “switched” power. When the integra is off, all lights on the ECU2 are off and the ECU2 is powered down. When you turn the integra on, it sends a signal to small 12 volt relay and then sends power on the can bus line. This can bus power turns the ECU2 on.
