As I pointed out above, electric motors have tremendous torque and will be great climbing out of your valley. And you will get some of that energy back when you return home and the electric motor acts as a generator when going downhill as well as greatly reducing the wear on your brakes.

We had no trouble going up the steep road to Hosmer park as described above.

IMHO, the  only reason to buy a hybrid is if you take long drives in an area with little or no charging infrastructure. In which case I would just buy straight gas car.

For us, we like many couples, have 2 cars. One is the Bolt which gets most of our daily miles (out and back under about 220 miles). The other is a gas SUV which we use to pull a trailer or for trips up north where there is as yet little charging infrastructure but it’s being built.

I think we agree on all points. Electric motors are great. The power supply for mobile vehicles is the problem. Electric motors would be great for climbing out of my valley, but there isn't enough battery technology to make it feasible for an EV at this time.

If I get on highway 12 in Townsend, I don't pass a charging station for over 300 miles.

There is a reason our semis pack 300 gallons of diesel and my pickups all hold 50+.

From what I have read, there isn't a single EV out there right now that would go 300 miles at 80+ mph in 90+ degree temps with the A/C on or at 0 degrees with the heater on. Not to mention the wind through Wheatland county.
