Subject: Calving I tell ya...

ND
Had an old cow that slipped through the cull cut last fall. She calved overnight in the trees and her nice big bull calf was 100 feet away accross a small water drain laying next to 3 barb and 1 electric fence. I go and grab calf and of course it gets up hits the electric and runs through fence 100 yards out into field about foot deep of mud. Catch it, carry it back to mom. Cow tries to get up but can't. I go mix up colostrum bag and milk cow out a little to get real colostrum. Tube calf and first time of the year... hit the lungs. Great way to start morning. Surprisingly enough, calf was still standing when i had to go to work. Retubed and hit the stomach as i figured its gonna still need colostrum if it lives. Also gave shot of pcn for the pneumonia its gonna have. Anyone else ever tube a calf wrong hole and survived??? up to this point all mine have died pretty much instantanenously. Had about half a bag in it. Probably should give it some dex too.
