East of Broken Bow | I used to use 99 cent incandescents, and they would last 5-10 years or more.
Then I went to the little curly-Q fluorescent bulbs, which were a joke and their life was measured in days or weeks and occasionally months, but not years.
Then I tried LED lights, and at least they light up decent in cold weather (curly-Q lights didn't) and cheap ones lasted maybe 6 months, so I got 'better' ones from the hardware store, and after 2-3 years, about 1/3 of them are out, too.
Call me skeptical, but I'm wondering just how much better for the environment, overall, it has been to use 10 curly-Q bulbe or 3-4 LEDs, as a lifetime replacement to a single incandescent? The old style light bulb was just glass with a metal base and tungsten electrode. The Curly-Q bulbs say they contain mercury, and not sure on the LEDs. | |
