I disagree. Unless it's a one-man show, the shop has a parts department who's responsible for locating parts for external customers as well as internal employees.
How about when my Parts guys spend 3 hours digging in old manuals, books, and bulletins for a part for a 50 year old junk pile for a customer to say "that's too expensive, we don't need that now"
How do I recoup that cost?
Yeah, I know, we rape and pillage on the price of the rest of our parts to make up for it. Dealers are bad, Amazon is better.
This is rhetorical question, I know I employ people that sometimes just waste time doing things in the name of customer service...It's just part of doing business, and why I spend some time here trying to educate on the other side of this business that customers may not realize.
