Franklinton, LA
I like you planter and subsoiler setup. This allows you to place each seed in an area that has not been compacted with wheel traffic.

My experience has been that this will work on fairly dry sandy soil. If the soil 8 - 12" below the soil surface is fairly moist you are not fracturing the soil. Subsoiling will be like slicing Jello with a knife. If you have soils that are moist or have a lot of clay the subsoiled trench will not adequately seal. After a rain the seed could be 6 - 8" deep.

Farmers in LA have used a ripper bedder in the fall when the soil is dry to subsoil and established a bed. The winter rains will seal the area over the subsoiled trench.

You have a very nice way to plant in your conditions. However, a good way to plant in one area will not work in all conditions.
