Mid-Michigan | I don't think you are. It does sound like you fell for some of the marketing gimmicks with the "surdrive" stuff (don't want to bash it but don't know what it is). I really can't belive how gullible some farmers are with marketing. Farmers are shrewd. Plain smart even though they don't have masters degrees in anything. Just the school of hard knocks. But guys will replace brand new stuff to get to the elusive "picket fence". Even though the difference in yield would take forever to recover the initial investment. I went to a guys farm that had three different piles of almost new closing wheels. He said that the ones he had most recently bought were the real deal even though I couldn't tell the difference from one set in the pile to the better ones he had installed. I've never seen a setup like you have up here (michigan), but if that works, keep going. Obviously there is maintenance. Lots of fine tuning on a planter. Easily rebuildable. Seems like most of the stuff I see is angled at no til and for trying to get the planter to work in the mud (it's really important for some guys to get out first and be done before the neighbors).
