Faunsdale, AL | Got a two axle trailer that one wheel bearing went bad and melted the spindle so it’s bent up between the bearings.
I found a “new, never been installed axle” and confirmed it was the right length, right spring perches, lug pattern etc. drove an hour out of my way to pick it up. Sellers wife met me there……he wasn’t around…….wonder why……..
Anyway when I get it home I decide to check the bearings are greased and everything is ok in the hubs.
Imagine my disgust when I find that the jackass has ground the spindles down with a side grinder so he could drive the bearings on.
My question is, I can spray weld and turn these back to size and it would be quicker than waiting on a replacements to be shipped to me. The work removing spindles from axle and welding back on will be the same
Is it going to hurt the spindles if I repair them or should I turn the bumps he left behind down and use quick metal to seat the bearings. Or just replace with new.
