Subject: RE: Minnesota Association of Townships

West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12
Here, where the big city meets the country there is a definite need for local township governance.

Here, the townships that hire private contractors to do the road maintenance rather than hiring the County have better and more timely maintained township roads. One neighboring township fired the County after decades of contracting with County and hired a private contractor a several years ago. It was well past time to make that change.

The township where I live is governed by a pretty conservative group of people. They still choose to lease and/or own the machinery to do the grading of gravel roads, snow removal, mowing of road ditches, and most brush clearing. I trust them to know if it is less costly/more efficient to have one fulltime person along with some parttime help to do those jobs in house rather then hire those jobs out.
