On a 284, it has a nut to set bearing preload. Torque to 50 Ft lb. Roll forward and rev 10 times each and re Torque till its good.

On the timing be sure to spin the hub 10 or 20 times each was when done. The timing can be tricky. If u are 1 tooth off it may Roll good for a few spins but will get tight.

I've done what your doing several times on a 284. The pic above is the same as my book.
