Subject: Hedging vs Speculating IRS VIEWPOINT

I have read the IRS CODE regarding the above but it infers it is almost a case by case judgement call on "grey areas".......

What I am wondering is, as long as i am following all the documentation/recordkeeping etc..etc..how does the IRS view a trades (profits/losses) that result from trhe following:

Inititiate a short pos to hedge upcoming crop with plan of lifting hedge and selling cash......in the meantime short hedge psition, after price declining, price begins coming back to original purchase price....not wanting to margin a position going against me I lift hedge for a slight gain..........after a few weeks I initiate hedge position, ride it down........lift hedge/sell cash.......how does the IRS view the 2 trades made to hedge the same cash sale?????

Thanks
