Subject: RE: Is a highschool education really useful?

Franklinton, LA
I graduated from the eighth grade in 1955 and high school in 1959. About 50% of the students who finished the 8th grade quit school, got married, dropped out of school or whatever and did not graduate from high school. We had a 50th high school reunion in 2009. Most of the students who failed to finish high school did not attend the reunion because they had passed away. By comparison, 12 of the 13 students in my high school class were still living in 2009. I think 8 of these 13 students are still living.

I have been told that 50% of what they teach in school will not be needed ten years from now. Also, they do not know how to teach you half of what you need to know ten years from now. Hopefully the student can learn how to learn in school so they can reinvent themselves every few years.
