It's driving me to distraction. I see guy after guy sharpen a chisel on YouTube and then take it to a piece of paper and as they push against it, it slices in and cuts cleanly. I've spent considerable time using a 1000 grit diamond stone then a fine Japanese water stone and finally strop it on leather using polishing compound. I sharpened to 25° and then a secondary bevel of 30°. I can shave the end grain of cherry or oak with the chisel but 24 weight printer paper just gets pushed against. If I slice into the paper I can cut the paper but I never succeed in just pushing into the edge and cutting like the experts on YouTube. Any suggestions? I am positive that a sharper plane blade would help, I don't envision any great benefit of any sharper chisel though.
