Applying the most Leachable nutrient 5-6.months before it's needed seems like a sane thing to do? It's popular in regions that need to apply lime and anhydrous conversion neutralizes calcium. So you'll have to like more often.
I get that it is super cheap and super fast but it's not great for the soil, water, living things and the fact that it's not if but how much leaches away your plants suffer.
Halve put Nh3 in the fall on half of field and put Nh3 on the other half of the field in the spring @ the same rate with no N serve. Haven't seen any difference between fall and spring applied.
