Its not just W11 either, Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 four years ago and yet - one recent morning upon rebooting my desktop PC - there is a shortcut to Edge browser on my desktop and I didn't put it there. Automatic updates turned off for 12 years. I don't particularly care for software installation that I didn't request.
There is a way to get rid of it permanently, but it requires not using Windows.
