Subject: Re: Grazing Wheat Questions

Southeast Colorado
I would think conditions in Canada vs Oklahoma might differ just a tad! I obviously don't know Canadian conditions but I would think that graze out wheat would maybe be viable. It is always better to let the wheat get big before turning the cattle out and if you do graze out you could probably put all of your fertilizer on pre-plant. Your harvest would be over much sooner than taking the wheat to harvest. I can't speak for farmerbryon but I would assume when he talks about top dressing his wheat it is after the cattle are removed and then they are taking the wheat to harvest for grain. It seems as though a lot of times here when we try to graze out wheat it gets too hot and the wheat starts to turn and we can't keep it green. I would think that in Canada the conditions would be perfect. 4 dollar a bushel wheat may not be hard to beat with cattle. Just my 2 cents.
