Hot wire works for us. The cattle aren't too interested in leaving an all you can eat buffet.
We do apply some 28-0-0 or urea to ours.
1 head per acre is going to be a heavy load here but some places can do it, it just depends on how large the wheat is and what kind of growing conditions we have.
