Subject: RE: Dribble Starter with Keetons?

Central Nebraska
We’ve used Keatons with the splitter to apply 4 gal 10-34-0 with 16-32oz zinc in furrow for a decade with no real issues. There’s a push towards using low salt starters over 10-34-0 in furrow which I think has some merit but that’s another topic for another day.

Only thing you need to watch is that the fertilizer tube that connects to the Keaton doesn’t come disconnected. If it does fertilizer will stream down onto the Keaton, it will ball up with mud and you can drag seed.

Edit to add: won’t be an issue with brand new keatons but if yours are worn the splitter/emitter can work its way sideways blocking flow, and sometimes fine sand can plug one side of the emitter. Always a good idea to watch your red balls and flow check the planter with someone standing behind once in a while to verify emitters are all working properly.
