south central WI | I was told with these carryover amounts the range was $350-4.25 last time ( only a few years ago). I don't know where that number is with inflation. Everyone seems to be saying hold your corn, but if every one is holding there corn, and the markets are still falling, what will happen when people start selling there corn to pay for inputs? I know some say they have every crop they have ever produced still in their bins, but a vast majority of farmers actually need sales to pay for their inputs.
I generally use all my corn for my dairy, so I don't follow the markets much. My wild guess is it keeps falling into the 3's, then gets a spike, maybe to where it was a couple weeks ago, farmers wait for higher prices, and then it falls again. $5 corn isn't normal yet. The next 3 years are going to hurt. | |
