After someone made the comment about them being so old above, I happened to see a chart with Apple's Phaseout dates. I think we have a year or two yet on the iPhone 8 as far as updates.
My current plan is that I purchase somewhat newer refurbished iPhones and move the SIM card to the newer phone. I did this with my iPhone 6 to an iPhone 8 and now to an iPhone XR. After the move, the old phones can still do everything they could before such as internet, pictures, music, my remote door apps etc. I just can't make or receive calls on them.
I did this with the GF's iPhone 6 to iPhone 8 also. The battery life potential on that one is still at some 80%.
I ordered my refurbished iPhone XR with a new battery which cost a bit more. It shows 100% of potential charge where my iPhone 8 is down to 72% and is showing a yellow icon in the upper right corner. If I use it as a security camera in the house pointing out the back door, it can be left plugged into a charger at all times.
I believe the newer iPhones no longer use SIM cards…its all digital now… |
