Central IA
I really enjoy real wood. Stoves are best for heating. Fireplaces for local heat and ambiance.

Not sure where you’re from. But in central Iowa. Woods I like.
*Wild cherry, splits easy, dries fast. Very nice aroma. Cut now or spring, easily ready in 6 months.
*Ash, green or white. Splits easy, ready in 6 months.
*mulberry, most underrated heating wood. Dries quicker than white oak, gets close to heat and coals of oak.
*red oak, splits easier than white oak, dries quicker. Maybe one whole season. Good heat.
*white oak, best heat and coals, longest burn. If cut now, really won’t be ready fo next winter, maybe later part. Maybe.
*Hickory, splits easy, great heat. Wood bore bug will freak people out.
Red elm if you can get. Great heat.

That’s all I keep. But I have a wood stove and try not and use furnace from Christmas to Valentines.
