I don't have a lot of direct experience with micro dairies, but I've seen quite a few of them over the years. In my opinion --

1 cow -- hand milk.
1-2 cows -- surge milker, the kind that straps on the cow. This has the advantage of being fully cleanable by hand with dish soap, with a minimum of disassembly.
3-5 cows -- bucket milker. A more specific cleaning process is necessary, and you'll need to keep a non-foaming detergent and an acid on hand.
4-10 cows -- I'm probably in the minority on this, but this is about when I'd start looking into a very small scale pipeline system with weigh jars. I have some ideas for what this could look like, if interested.
