central - east central Minnesota -

peterbilt379 - 1/5/2024 19:24 Just thinking about pouring some asphalt for fence line bunks. I am wondering if anyone has done this and if it will last?

Here's the deal with Asphalt quality/use. It's prepared to last about 20 yrs give or take. Moisture / water are it's biggest enemies. The asphalt cement oil is key . . .  . for livestock use, it should be a minimum of 6.3 %, no less. Should have less air voids then road mix and should be compacted more - the more the merrier, as there's no traffic to help compact it in the first few years of it's life. As someone else mentioned, the base is also key. Should be at least 8 inches of 1 inch minus compacted solidly. By the time you get all that - concrete is just better all around . . . . .. .
