coast of Maine | I have a good friend who with her husband live off the grid (12kilometers)into the woods,,meanwhile the actual town is only 100 miles from the arctic circle.So remote as heck and cold as heck,yesterdays high temp was -24F.They use solar panels and wind tower.Gen set to charge batteries in cloudy times,gas stove and low volt fridge.Wood stove in basement supplies heat and passive solar windows as well.Marti said the wind tower is a waste on its production.He is on a hill but the maint and costs of upgrades ,,would not do the tower again.he builds it all himself,house and all.It is amazing how nice there home is.It is also 3 stories with one 2/3 into the earth.Here is a photo inside of their off the grid home,he and his wife were veg farmers in Finland til maybe 5 years ago.
