NC IA | I had forgotten that about 10 years ago I replaced that housing on my 2188 due to a crack radiating from a bolt hole by the big blob of silicone. It’s a 1995 or early 96 engine, with this housing has made in USA stamped in it. Being I never throw anything away, I dug it out just now and took some pics. It appears to be just fine with no machining slag in the passage you question. But now you’ve got me wondering about the “new” replacement that I put on 10 years ago! I’d have to do some digging to find what I put on it for a part number. I’m pretty sure I got it from Cummins. My combine is not on the farm here so I can’t run out and look. Anyway, here’s the pictures. My theory is the older made in USA housings do not have the problem that you found.
Edit to add: I fired up my computer and I replaced mine in 2018 with Cummins pn#3974325-220.
