| Simply put, there's enough losses in the mechanical-electric-mechanical conversion of a series hybrid that any gains by operating the engine at peak efficiency is lost. It is always most efficient to put as much mechanical power from the engine directly to the wheels as possible.
To pencil operating costs out, the Ramcharger really relies on that the owner will be using the EV-only mode as much as possible. Otherwise if EV mode is never used one would generally get better fuel economy driving a conventional truck; especially during highway driving.
