rochester IN | We had tandems for years. Corn was making 150 bu now with 200-250 bu corn I don’t know how you get anything done with just a tandem. I’m pretty sure if I count all my seat hours I have spent way more setting in a truck than a tractor. Not to mention setting in a processor line with only half of what everyone around you has on. We’ve got a quad axel that hauls nearly as much as a semi and as versatile as a tandem also. My problem with it is if something happens to it during harvest (major engine problems) it’s down an out. Something happens to the semi with in a day I can have something under the trailer and moving albeit maybe not what we would want long term. But still getting the job done.
There are cheap tandem’s out there but not necessarily setup right. The ones that are right are high dollar heavy fronts with 18” or so of over hang is the ticket. Tire combination is a pretty minor thing on a truck purchase in my opinion. | |
