Salina, Kansas | A semi in KS does NOT require a cdl if it is farm use only and especially within 150 statute miles of home. It DOES require a class A license though. You CAN get a regular class A license but not all the drivers license offices seem to know that or at least they wont admit it. The sad part is we were told the same by the head DOT official in Topeka a few years ago at a Farm Bureau meeting. His advise was to ask around at the offices until you found one that would test you for a regular class A instead of telling you that you had to get a cdl. I was a little pissed at that statement. It is his JOB after all to make sure his offices offered everything that was legal instead of what they wished.
Not commenting on the truck choice. Just the comment that you needed a CDL to drive a semi in ks. I assume we are talking about a farm truck and in ks a farm semi does not need a CDL, just a regular class a
