sounds like you know what you want, just hesitant to spend 100k on a tandem truck because that's just a pretty avg. number to get one built now. I have a 10 year old semi truck and 10 year old tandem hopper for less than 60k together and can haul 1000 legal or 1100 at harvest. We don't need a CDL to drive a farm tagged semi here so that helps to find people.


We have about $60K CDN in a straight truck/box and pup that we can haul about 950 legal with. No special license or safeties required here for this arrangement if licensed for farm use. If we went to a semi you would need a Class 1 (CDL) license and annual safeties for both the tractor and trailer. If you want to get a Class 1 you now have to take a government approved training course which is about $10K.

Prices for trucks/boxes/trailers have changed a lot in the last couple of years. Anything you or I did several years ago would likely cost significantly more now.
