Michigan | Unless you need a tandem for silage I'd look at a small auto trans semi and shorter hopper trailer. Anyone can drive these and you can get into any field entrance. Can haul 500-750 bu and even be sort of legal. Hoists fail at the worst possible time and overloaded tandems (they are always overloaded) always feel tippy to me going around corners.
You still might have to make your own auto-trans semi if you want to avoid emissions. Take the same truck you are looking at turning into a tandem dump, but instead shorten the frame, add a fifth wheel plate, and move the axles forward.
