South central Minnesota | There are quite a few obstacles to overcome to have widespread use of electric vehicles Range, comfort, recharging to name a few.
Battery design at this time limits range, newer technology is expensive and environmentally destructive, look at what it takes to build the Prius.
Comfort, heating and cooling in an electric vehicle? don't think you need it ? Well bucko when it's cold here in Minnesota you need heat just like you need to cool the car in Texas during the summer. And heat and cold are hell on batteries efficiency too.
Recharging is a problem, we are already taxing the output of the nations power plants and no new construction in sight .Oh by the way what is fueling those power plants? Nuclear is a dirty word in this country, coal, water and wind and solar not enough development yet.Convenient recharging time, no quick turnaround if you are drained and need to go again without a battery change.
Hydrogen vehicles make more sense but widespread use is unlikely for quite some time. Oh and the emissions from a hydrogen vehicle will be hell to deal with here in Minnesota during the winter. Might have to have two tanks in the car, one for the hydrogen and on for the water produced out the tailpipe. | |
