Central SD | Just because your herd is closed doesn’t mean that you don’t have any disease shedders in your own herd. I wouldn’t necessarily blame your vet for the problems you are having instead I would ask the friend you bought cows from what vaccinations those cows have had since birth. There are many small cow calf operations that think since they are a somewhat closed herd they don’t need to vaccinate. They never consider how many problems they are creating for the next guy that purchases their calves. There is a local guy here that buys commingled “all natural” calves from the east. He runs a good operation but he also buys his antibiotics by the case and the death loss is more than I could stomach.
