80w90 is very similar to motor oil, it's just a different scale of oil viscosity, still a relatively thin oil. Lanolin will not just rinse off with water, maybe very hot water, but that would still take a lot of time in the cracks and crevices where it works best. It wouldn't take much for a detergent to clean it though. Usually it gums up enough with a light layer of dust and comes off with the dust, in MY experience, but I don't polish tractors like some do.
