Subject: RE: Still in need of rain

SE Iowa
Only tillage we did was a disc chisel on the outsides of some fields to push back the sod and snake grass in a few places. Had a few rains late August that helped keep stuff somewhat mellow but behind the chisel is pretty well powder. Certainly not comfortable doing any extensive tillage. We will make average someday so we still laid a lot of tile, built a terrace and some water diversions. Seems silly but like dad says to me all the time, “You have long forgotten the wet years. They will return again someday”. He isn’t wrong. I feel like I could farm across every waterway we own and we certainly could have for the last three years. Memories of wet years are fading but I really don’t need any reminders either. :)
