swmn | Last Deere was 6710. Made switch to an 850 Claas with a 6 an RU 450 extra head. That thing was just like a Timex watch-just kept running.
Added a 900 to that a few years later then a couple years later added an 870 Claas. Of those 3 the 850 was least maintenance.
Had the 870 for 2 years put 400 hours on it and never touched it with a wrench. 900 was good but took the most maintenance.
With your budget you are probably needing to go the auction route and hope for the best. Done that 3 times. First one took $10000 in repairs, second didn't take any and the last one took an additional $63000 in the shop which made it new again.
Trouble with the higher houred chopper is buying parts that have nothing to do with making silage.
