| I have been banding maintenance amounts for 35 years. First was dry fertilizer on the planter. Last 13 years with Montag cart. If you are on a building program, it requires less fertilizer to be broadcast to build to desired levels. As far as soil sampling, the plant pulls up and utilizes nutrients and the leftover amounts are tied up in the the plant residue, just like every other field. I think of it this way. When I have a rusty bolt that needs wd 40. Is it more efficient to spray without the little plastic tube or is it better to use the tube to direct it exactly where needed. Broadcast fertilizer comes into contact with the entire soil surface. Banded comes in contact with 1% of the soil. Which has more chance of being tied up and unavailable to the the plant? Which has more chance of being eroded? | |
