If I remember correctly it was when the 11 year cycle and the 18.6 year cycle peak near the same year. Their interaction together feeds on each other and intensifies the results. If memory is correct, the 11 year cycle ended in 33 and 36 was closest on the 18.6 cycle. Looking at records in iowa, 1933 was as dry as 1934, but didn't have the heat of 34. 35 was a more normal year but 36 was the worse of the previous 3. What made 36 the more extreme was the terrible winter. We will know if this hold true soon.
