Morningdew - 11/19/2023 10:50 Some grasses that Are new bales I find almost like rope. Dry as a bone. Cattle chew and chew. Only time I get twisted gut problems. Older bales seems to “break “up more for them to eat. Granted if I ground all my bales I wouldn’t have this problem.

I've been told by more than one cattle feeder that cattle do less sorting and eat more of the old nasty looking year old corn stalk bales vs new corn stalk bales, even when it all goes trough a tub grinder and is delivered as a TMR.

To the point that some guys try to have old corn stalk bales left over for feeding purposes instead of having to grind/feed new bales right after harvest.
