Iowa | On the video it looks line it can turn a 60' corn planter around on a 120' headland so it will set down and match the previous pass. Will it do the same with with a 40' planter and 80' headland?
Edit: I can do this manually without using the brakes, but it is difficult (but possible) to reliably make the rows match up with the previous pass for the first few feet into the field and still have everything properly orientated to keep it that way with no autosteer weaving around to find proper orientation (especially if using an articulated tractor that wags its tail every time it turns a little). It would be easy if I would make a third pass to get 120' headlands, but two passes is otherwise sufficient with less tracking around. It's more so a matter of the length of the "train" than its width. I don't have a problem turning short enough, and pattern of skipping a pass would not make a difference. It's a matter of getting all of the tractor and what I am pulling lined up straight with the AB line before setting it down for the next pass. A 60' planter or whatever is 20 feet wider, but not any longer behind the tractor. With two passes on the ends (120'), they effectively have have 30 more feet to play with than two passes with a 40' planter (80'). Neither can use the full width of the end rows because the 60' planter would have to keep the center 30'feet from the fence while the 40' planter would need keep the center 20' from the fence. Effectively, the 60' planter with two passes on the end rows has 90 feet to play with while the 40' planter has 60' to play with while getting turned around and line up with the next pass. 60' is not a lot of room, so the auto steer would need to be quick and accurate. Three passes with the 40' planter on the end rows would effectively give it 100 feet to play with, making it so easy the Turnpath would not be necessary. Maybe I should swallow my pride and make three passes on the ends....
Also, I noticed it (edit: on the video linked above) twitching the steady steer back and fourth while turning the Case IH boxcar magnum around. It probably does not matter much with a regular tractor, but that twitching violently jerks the cab, tractor, and implement around when turning an articulated tractor. Are there some settings that can be adjusted to make it less twitchy?
