Subject: Who follows the Benner cycle and where are we now?

Chip Flory referenced Elwynn Taylor’s acknowledgement of the Benner Cycle a few weeks back..  I thought I heard Chip say that the 89.. or 90 year cycle was due to hit again.. “lovely.”

The 1930s dust bowl was two droughts early in the decade.. followed by the big one in 1936 which put “the dirty” in “The Dirty 30’s.”

The 1950s were dry.. according to pops (who passed away in 2022.)

drought of 88/89.. was this bad dad?  “not like the 1950s”.. or Grandpa farming in the 1930’s.

So it’s not uncommon to have multi year droughts out here on the plains.. and since the beau coup wet 2019 year.. we’ve been “on the dryer” side..  I could buy into a 1936 blowout.. “would fit my luck.”

but also trying to respect.. “but it’s going to rain so we’re headed to loan rates..”.

(btw.. someone please Tell me again why I wanted to farm?  Kinda forgotten..)

Anywho..  someone who understands this more.. please chime in.

intellectually it makes sense.. and looking out the window..  yikes.

“As a farmer, Samuel knew that the seasonal cycles affected crops, which then affect supply and demand, which affects the price. Benner looked deeper into these cycles and found an 11-year cycle in corn and pig prices with peaks every 5/6 years. This matches the 11-year solar cycle. Benner figured that this solar cycle affects crop yield, affecting revenue, supply/demand, and price.”

guess I could just try the free trial.. okay Fire away.. where are we here.. I’m confused.  (As usual..
