nc ks | While I think it is best to keep batteries that will readily accept a charge on things, there have been times we struggled too long with bad batteries in a piece of equipment, and I have hardly ever replaced an alternator tjat that didn't have rough bearings. I think you are over thinking it just like the OP is.
I would look at it and buy a good jumpstarter and save your starters. Those are what get cooked by inadequate batteries. Imo, they are safer for an ecm than hooking up a high powered charger to them, or inadequate jumper cables, or hooking up either backwards. Most of the high end jumpstarters won't put out juice if it senses reverse polarity.
