Imports could be for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest uses for imports is seed. Growing grain in South America and shipping to the US and Canada has gotten to be a big deal. It takes 32 million bushels of corn seed to plant 80 million acres, a little plus or minus using 2.5 acre per bag.
