Jim, Hopefully John responds.
I had a long response typed out for you, but I lost it before I could hit submit. Not typing it again. So in short, do you really believe this,

"I think the "lassez-faire" capitalists have been in charge for most of the last decade and were on the watch when we hit the iceberg."

Because if more people like you believe this, then we are definitely headed for big time trouble, not just in the next few years, but for decades!!!!! jmho
I will defer to someone like John to explain why.
One last statement. Government debt + interference of the Federal Reserve doesn't allow any room for " lassez-faire" economic decisions.
